5 Steps for Choosing a Boarding School
There are several steps involved in selecting a boarding or private school. With the Internet, we have a much easier time taking that first step together. Getting schools reviewed on websites like Boarding School Review and Private School Review is easier than ever. Keep track of your applications with our Calendar.
Step 1: Determine schools
During this stage, be as creative and imaginative as you like. Research as many schools as you can. Explore each school's website. Videos are available for many schools. Reviews written by students may also be found on their websites. Each review contains a student comment. You will also find comments on many school websites, although they are usually pretty positive. We do not filter the comments posted by boarders on Boarding School Review or Private School Review.
Step 2: Make a shortlist
Before choosing a private school, it is important to research it thoroughly. How come? Your child should take part in the decision-making process. For this reason, a spread sheet should contain your appointments. During the process of narrowing down your list of schools, you can code them. You should shortlist between three and five schools.
Step 3: Take a school tour
The importance of this step cannot be overstated. A substantial amount of time will need to be spent visiting schools on the list. The interview process will also be necessary. During the interview, you will be in a position to determine whether or not the school is a good match for your child and family. So many factors influence a child's future based on their education. Make sure you are doing your best. Make sure you ask lots of questions while visiting the school. Look around the classroom and discover how they teach. Find out if the teachers are qualified.
Step 4: The admissions test
Standardized admissions tests, such as the SSAT or ISEE, are taken by most schools. Additionally, you and your child will have to write an essay and a few other pieces of writing. If you want your child to do well on standardized tests, make sure they practice a lot. Don't wait until the last minute to practice. Schedule at least two mock tests with the same distractions and timing as the actual test, i.e., without interruptions.
Step 5: Pay and apply
Online applications are available from most schools, making the application process easier. Common applications are used by some schools. The teacher recommendation forms can be handed out in September so they can be completed early in the fall.
A boarding school that is right for your child may seem overwhelming, but it's worth the effort. The benefits of going to boarding school include many opportunities, and developing independent skills to prepare your child for college. An advanced computer lab is available to high school boarding school students.
